(More customer reviews)I got this a month back when it was time to dye my roots. I happen to be using instead of my usual Auburn color a medium copper brown from L'Oreal I usually put on my medium copper brown and the streak it using the color breaks from Garnier which gives me some light copper brown streaks. I decided to try some highlighting again. I got this box hoping the peroxide and developer would be of a high enough degree to turn my color. It does state on the box that it is for color treated hair from medium brown to darkest.
I pulled it through the cap with some help from the hubby a rough experience. Then I followed the directions as to mixing it instead of just powered bleach and liquid peroxide developer to mix like I am used to it included a frosting protective cream that you put in as well. SO I mixed all that up and started applying it to my hair as my husband has an asthma attack because the bleach is STRONG. After waiting the allotted time I rinsed out. I'm used to getting a somewhat golden color from any home highlighting kit I have used if I don't buy my bleach and peroxide myself. I was surprised to discover my hair was white Platinum. I used the shampoo that came with it and it was probably the best shampoo I've used aside from Nexxus. Then I put on the toner which was the usual purple color to prevent brassiness unlike other toners I've used in the past you don't wash this one out. My hair was dry but I use a Nexxus heat protector spray that made it very soft. The color was supposed to be Pecan and it was way off from that because it was pretty much so white it was colorless. I am glad I only pulled through small amounts of hair via every hole. Over all I like the effect. I went to the store again and they were sold out of the pecan so I got a box of the Carmel hi lighting kit same thing only for light brown to dark brown hair. I'm guessing it will probably turn out the same if not a little darker which will be fine. I am surprised it was able to lighting that much over a freshly color treated head of hair.
The instructions are good I would recommend a strand test I didn't do once because i had an extra box of the copper brown if things went bad. The kit comes with two hooks one a small metal hook the other is on the end of the plastic spatula that you use to stir the peroxide, frosting protector cream, and bleach powder together in the provided for bowl. It came with nice rubber latex gloves and a cap that looks like a fruit bag from the store to cover your head with during processing to hold in heat. It also states to not put or leave the metal hook in the mix which of course anything metal shouldn't be placed in it at all. The inside pamphlet shows different styles that you can do bypulling hair in from certain places since my goal was an over all lighter coloring since the dye I use always turns up dark until it washes away after about a month I just wanted it done with then so I pulled some through all over my head.
Overall the product did lighten my hair even thought it wasn't the color on the box or pecan in anyway I was still glad that it was able to lighten it at all. As you can see I've already gotten another box and will do a review on it once I get it done. Its worth a try and have a box of your fav color extra and handy nearby for any incidents that may occur. If its to light and you put your normal color on it will give you the appearance of subtle hi lights that way because the bleached pieces wont turn up as dark as the rest. I am pretty sure with this line brassiness isn't something you would have to worry about.
